  • [PS2] Syphon Filter - The Omega Strain (NTSC-U) Online bypass codes and more

I recently replayed Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain and decided I wanted to 100% the game. However, I ran into some complications. It appears that to 100% the game, you need to go online, but the online servers were taken down years ago. There was only one thing left to do: hack my way to 100%

Special thanks goes to the developers of PCSX2 and Scanmem&GameConquerer. Without these tools, I would never have been able to locate the addresses I needed to, or even replay the game.

These codes are untested on an actual PS2 and PS2 cheat device, because mine has the dreaded disc read error. If anyone wants to test them and confirm they work, please do. I used this site's code generator to generate these codes based on address, value, and type, so if there are any issues it's likely the fault of that. The selected format was Codebreaker 7+ unencrypted, if it matters.

Also, I'm sure these codes could be written in a more optimal manner, such as using slide codes. If anyone wants to do that for me or point me to a tutorial explaining them [or fix this site's processing of that code type to include the step variable in its otherwise very helpful description sentences], please do.

All Team Objectives Completed (You may need to save and reload your profile for it to be fully processed. Users of old cheat devices should replace the 70 at the start of each line with 00, and set the value to FF; just note that this will unlock additional objectives.)

When all of the above codes are active, you can create a new profile, open the Modify Agent menu, save, exit out to the main menu, reload, and you have a 100% complete profile, save for reading all those pesky Zeus files.

And finally, I'd like to report an issue on the existing code page for this game. The first code in the Codebreaker 7.0 section, Access All Equipment (Equipment Modify), is mistakenly being processed as a CB1 code, when it's really a CB7 code, leading to much confusion.

Thanks for the links, though the first one wasn't so helpful because PS1 and PS2 codes are significantly different.

As before, these codes are completely untested, but should be identical to the non-slide versions in the first post assuming I read the second link properly and put the codes in the generator properly.

Your title for the first post says "online bypass", what are you referring to? The servers have been down for years now and I don't remember any cheat detection on this game.

He said in the first paragraph that the servers are down, however he wanted to get 100% complete in this game. So he made a bypass to get online but not really be online.

I guess I poorly worded things. Probably because I don't know this community at all and I think I only ever managed to play the game online once. All these codes do is unlock all of the stuff you can only unlock when online; or at least stuff you should only be able to unlock online. It doesn't trick the game into letting you go online because I am not skilled enough for that in the slightest, and even if it did the objectives would still not be completable without other cheats and glitches, and even with the most optimal routes only a few team par times can be obtained by yourself [only Carthage 2 comes to mind]. However, offline you can still complete and unlock credit for the Team objectives if you use cheats and glitches to obtain them. Specifically, the Walk Through Walls cheat and the jump glitch. Here, have a disorganized half-asleep-written guide to getting all of the team objectives offline which doesn't even work for all of them.

Team objectives without the team: a brief guide.

Carthage 1 - Retrieve Broussard's Laptop: Use the well-known jump glitch or walk through walls cheat to enter the windows directly right to where you first spawn and grab the laptop.

Carthage 3 - Rescue injured SWAT officers: Bring smoke grenades and either the stun jack or an air taser. The Air Pistol and Riot Shotgun will not work for this. Ignore all enemies unless otherwise noted. Start by locking down the doors on the right, using a smoke grenade as cover. Run up the stairs, past the bomb, pick up the injured officer and carry him downstairs to the safe zone. Do the same to the other officer to the right when you exit the safe zone. Now, run back up stairs past where you picked up the first officer, toss a smoke and lock the door on the left. Run past the upstairs bomb, rolling to dodge fire, and lock down the door to your right. Pull out a gun, shoot the glass behind you, climb down, and toss a smoke at the final door located opposite the safe zone. Pull out your stun jack or taser and prepare for a swat officer to enter. Stun him before he gets shot, and lock down the final door. Only then will the objective be completed, and I hope you didn't stop running for a second. And now if you're quick and use the same strategy, you can disable the downstairs bombs and blow Masson's head off before five minutes are up, earning yourself the solo par time.

Belarus 1 - Escort all workers to safety: Don't turn off all the machines, and don't bring any workers down the elevator until all have gathered there and merged into a single cthulu-esque abomination. [I haven't tested this but it should work. However, I read somewhere that perhaps one of the workers don't spawn in offline mode, but can't confirm it.]

Belarus 2 - Destroy bridge to stop tank: This one is not possible offline to my knowledge, even with cheats. There just isn't enough time. What you need to do is use either walk through walls or the jump glitch to plant a single C4 block at the bridge, run to the C4 stash, then back to the bridge, all in the span of a minute and a half. There just isn't enough time. I did manage to find the address counting the number of C4 in my inventory and set it back to 1 after planting the first c4, which let me blow the bridge, but the address isn't consistent between playthroughs and I'm not a skilled enough hacker and likely don't have the tools to backtrace what writes to the address and no-op it.
A thought occurred to me: a gas grenade or explosive can be used to commit suicide and teleport your resurrected corpse to wherever you got the last checkpoint. Perhaps if you manage to bypass the checkpoint trigger near the C4, you can suicide-teleport close enough to the bridge that you can destroy it in time.

Yemen 2 - Destroy Scud firing mechanism: As soon as you leave the security room area and reach the balcony, jump glitch up the ledge to the right and press triangle on the missile.

Myanmar - Recover flight recorder: Jump glitch onto the ruins the flight recorder is hiding on top of. The little hill makes it really easy. Then just finish climbing to it and grab it.

Ukraine - Stop missile from launching: Hug Gabe's hindquarters as he gets on the elevator to hack the missile's guidance system. Jump to the platform with the first console, then use walk through walls or two jump glitches to get to the other console and activate it in time. Walk through walls is by far a less painful method.

That should be all of the team objectives accounted for. I really only made these cheats for Belarus 2 and the par times. And to be honest, with the Access All Equipment cheats, the only thing you're getting with them which you couldn't get before are a few extra pieces of lore and a few extra modify character assets.

I'm not even sure why I even typed this all up. I guess I just love hearing the sound of my piece of junk $10 keyboard clacking unsatisfyingly.

In all seriousness, I love this game, but it's a good testament as to why you should never lock single-player content behind an online mode which will inevitably go down in the future, as well as the lengths fans will go in unlocking the content anyway. I don't want this content to be lost forever, kept only in the hands of a select few who still have working PS2s, memory cards, and copies of the game, all of which will eventually be lost to wear.

So in summary, everything I've said is just impotent rage at how dialup internet stopped me from playing the game to its full extent back when it was relevant. And now I'm going to submit this post before I go on yet another rant. Good night everybody.
