  • Tools of the trade: retro gaming programs for Windows

Hope it's not a problem to post some potentially useful files related to retro gaming.
Feel free to contribute, or let me know to add/remove an application.

    ------------------------------

    Java GGCncoder v1.1
A Game Genie encoder that can work on any platform, since it's written in Java.
Note: Do not open this (ggencoder.jar) with WinRAR, you need to have Java installed to view it properly.
You can download Java from this address http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

    Download

    ------------------------------

    Apply-PPF v2.0
This is a command-line tool for applying PPF patches.

    Download

    ------------------------------

    Cmd Here Powertoy Setup
This is an installer by Microsoft for Windows XP.
After installing this, you can right-click a folder to open the command prompt inside the directory.
Saves time from having to manually browse to the folder with the cd "folder name" command.

    Download

    ------------------------------

    PlayStation Utilities v1.0
This application is for PS1 GameShark v3.x, Action Replay v3.x and Game Buster cheat cartridges.
As far as I can remember, this is the only version I could get to work properly with downloading the Virtual Memory cards while using Windows XP.

    Download

    ------------------------------

    Genesis/32x CheckSum Fixer
This application will fix Checksum for Genesis/Mega Drive and 32x games...

    Download

    ------------------------------

    Genesis/Mega Drive Checksum Fixer
Like the application directly above, this will fix checksums for Sega Genesis. The only difference is it will fix batches of games in mere seconds. This is simply a stripped down version of ucon64 I put together.

    To use:
    1. Make a new folder and place the patcher in it.
    2. Put the games you would like to fix in the same folder.
    3. Double click the patching program.
    4. Use the other batch file included to delete the backups made, if needed.
Note: The games must be have a .bin extension.

    Download

    ------------------------------

    Megabyte/Kilobyte File Splitter
This program can split a file into 2 or more parts. I believe this is the one I mentioned in the GameShark Pro thread.

    Download

    ------------------------------

    PSXGameEdit v1.60
I can't recall ever using this, but It has a potentially useful "Compare Saves" option.
I recommend using MemcardRex v1.6 (or newer) for PS1 memory cards.
You can grab it here: http://shendosoft.blogspot.com/

    Download

    ------------------------------

    psxlinker v0.4 by Psycomantis
This is a command-line utility for... hmm, I'm not sure. But hate to see retro applications like this become extinct.

    Download

    ------------------------------

    PSX File Padding Tool v1.0
    From the readme:
This tool will pad your demo/packed original ps-x exe
combination up to the size of the unmodified original game exe.
Creating a file of the correct size to be inserted back into the
cd image. Intended for the psx but should work for general applications.

Note: The archive does not contain the required cc3250.dll.

    Download

    ------------------------------

    Set Region V1.0
This is a command-line utility for modifying the region of PlayStation games.

    Download

Note: I'm pretty sure you also need the archive named ar3fl030.zip, which can be found here.

    Download

    ------------------------------

    V-Mem Import Export
A collection of tools I put together to import and export a Virtual Memory Card to and from GameShark Pro v3.x for the PS1. The memory card can also be directly used with the emulator pSX.

I suppose this converts Xps saves to Sav format.

    Download

    ------------------------------

    EmptyFolderNuker.exe
An awesome small app that will search a directory for empty folders, and can then delete them if you tell it to.
I used this after extracting a "GoodSet" of ROMs into separate folders and using windows search to move certain tagged games into another folder. Saves a lot of time from manually looking into a folder to see if it's empty.

    Download

    ------------------------------

    FDS Spray
Useful Windows application that will add a header to Family Computer Disk System ROMs, among other things. If your ROM's don't work in the emulator VirtuaNES, this will fix 'em.

Like all of them, as long as you know how to use the command prompt.
But, most of these tools are for Sony PlayStation (1).

Google does not want to be known for spreading viruses, so they are simply warning you that .exe and java applications could potentially be viruses. I did not upload a virus, they are just warning you...

And yes, Google docs is a part of Google Drive.

You don't make GG codes? I could have sworn I seen GG codes on some of your posts. The java converter can be used to convert your codes.

I know this thread is for Windows tools, but this Linux plugin can be used to cheat in ePSXe and other PSEmu plugin-based emulators available for the OS. I don't think it's well-known, so, yeah. I believe the ePSXe team plan on releasing a new Linux build of ePSXe (ETA unknown).
