I don't get it. I was messing with it earlier for Xcom UE and it's just shit. "Memory Editor" my ass. I was expecting a hex editor, not a goddamn debugger. I also have yet to see a way to search for ASCII text. Am I the only one who still prefers the old school tmkSearch? I'm just trying to figure out why the hell the network connection for tsearch doesn't work through WINE on my linux box. I was hoping to remote hex edit the shit. I hate alt+tabbing.

Why the hell do people love Cheat Engine so much?

They love it because they visit the forums and see the creator DarkByte has the most adorable My Little Pony avatar on Earth, and then there's no escaping... Don't look at it or you'll be sucked in and we'll never hear from you alive ever again.
I haven't used it in forever. Only ever messed with Aliens Vs Predator, House Of The Dead 2, and System Shock, and I was a complete new moron to everything back then, but I didn't have any real trouble using it. I grabbed 6.3 again because I was certain I could search for text when I used it like 8-9 years ago, I see it's instead called search type "String" and also has an option for Unicode and whatever else stuff. No idea about the hex editor or debugger, never went that far back then and I never play PC games anymore.
If anything I find everybody loves ArtMoney. Wherever I went looking for tools like this back then, and still randomly to this day if I ever talk about this stuff everybody says "ArtMoney" like the memes of Louis from Left 4 Dead saying "PILLS!?". Nobody's ever heard of cheat engine or anything else on this planet, just ArtMoney even for emulators.Last edited by bungholio; 10-03-2016, 11:25:05 AM.

Yeah, I need something that works remotely. Every time I alt+tab out of Xcom EU, the fucking thing crashes. How the fuck do people stand PC gaming? I'd like to just mod save data, but nobody did a proper tool to unpack/repack and fix checksums all in one. It's sad when it's easier to hack an Xbox360 version of a game than it is to hack the PC version.

If anything, I always find it easier to hack a PS3/PS2/any console game over a PC game for some reason. Do they usually put in a lot of extra effort in PC games to make them hard to hack compared to consoles? There also might be tools out there to force programs into a windowed mode instead of full screen, I've heard of them being used for games for issues like this but I never had a reason to try using any of them if they even did what they said they do.
Also, usually DarkByte for Cheat Engine is very responsive to things in the forums, if you request it he might add it even though you don't like Cheat Engine. The rare times I was there with questions and other stuff, he was right on top of it that same day. I needed Cheat engine in reverse bytes mode for going through data dumps of PS3 games in reverse byte order for the pointer scanner, and either he did a quick fix or already had a separate version but he linked me to it that same day. I haven't been there in years but I think I'm going to hop on their forums and take a glance.Last edited by bungholio; 10-04-2016, 12:16:02 AM.
