    If your lunch plans included throwing a Banquet meal in the microwave, you might want to make sure the chicken nugget tray doesn’t include a brownie, as the sweet treat may contain Salmonella bacteria.

    WASHINGTON, April 20, 2017 –

    The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is alerting consumers that the brownie mix dessert included in the breaded chicken nugget meal trays produced by Conagra Brands, Inc., a Marshall, Mo. establishment, may be contaminated with Salmonella. FSIS is issuing this alert, which affects 110,817 pounds of frozen meals, out of an abundance of caution after the company notified FSIS that the source material used in the brownie mix may be contaminated with Salmonella.

    This public health alert applies to the following breaded chicken nugget, macaroni and cheese, and chocolate brownie meal tray *produced on Jan. 26, 2017:
    • 7.4 oz. vacuum-packed trays containing “BANQUET Chicken Nuggets with Mac & Cheese” with Code 3100080921 and a “BEST IF USED BY” date of July 20, 2018.


    The products bear FSIS establishment number “P-9” printed on the side of the box. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

    The problem was discovered when Conagra Brands, Inc. received notification from a supplier that an ingredient used in the brownie mix may be contaminated with Salmonella.

    There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a health care provider.

    The toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854) is available in English and Spanish and can be reached from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Eastern Time) Monday through Friday.       I thought it was going to be something with the chicken instead of the side brownie. I haven't eaten Banquet Chicken Nuggets in probably over 20 years now. I got tired of them being the next best thing to cat food with that minced chicken crap with random chunks of fat and bone shaped into a nugget like shape with breading thrown on. I don't eat their chicken strips for the same reason too, minced up cat food. Their normal chicken whatever in a box isn't too bad though. They really need to not mince things up, it's gross and unpredictable of what's going to end up in that nugget.

        Tyson "Any-tizers" are the same way. Their "Buffalo Wyngz" are mostly chicken, but have bits of gristle and bone thrown in. Almost every boneless nugget has the same thing--one or two bits of gristle or bone. I guess they get points for consistency...
