Default Game Music Rips? Please help, please....

Errr... is there a program 'here' soemwhere, I believe there is/was that allows you to rip music from games? Also, 'then' can that music be saved as 'MP3' formats? and also burned to a CD?

I mean pretty much 'any game' but right now, I wish and eman Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, and seeing as alot of us ahve these games (PSX format) I'd had to ask.

I seriously, would love, this music, please...please....please. and not wishing to be all 'illegal' and all, but I do not think it is 'bad' to rip a game CD you own and use the music yourself. I mean, well... I would 'buy' the game music CDs if I could find them in stock 'anywhere' in the world, so they cannot blame me for that, I already bought the game so there. I also could and would and so damn hard try to use Kazzaa and such, but getting a complete soundtrack of anything on there is well... near impossible these days.

Thus am asking please with good results, music ripping, a how too for those two games, and even if possible, pleas ebe possible, if the music is or will convert to MP3 for music CDs. (There are music tests on the games, both of them, so some hope there)

ummm otherwise, no one ehr4e has the MP3 music files in a zip file somewhere do they? I recall watnet has 'alot' of files on it...but not sure, I cannot remember if someone threw music somewhere (game music) or not... so... please to help?

It is possible to rip game music, but it's not easy, at least for the most part on psx games.
I don't think it's illegal, as it's not really too much different than just recording the music off the game onto a tape or something.

There's a huge collection of different game music rips here: www.zophar.net/music.html
Chrono Cross is in the Playstation section, but Chrono Trigger is in the SNES section. To play these, you'll need winamp, and a couple of plugins. With this all, it's possible to turn the music into mp3, but I don't remember how exactly to do it. SephiRon knows... But I haven't seen him around recently...

    The plugins are at www.zophar.net/winamp/
And the ones that I recomend getting for using psf and spc files are SNESAmp and Highly Experimental (I tried linking them directly, but that didn't work...).

And... If I remember correctly, www.emuparadise.org has a pretty large collection of game soundtrack mp3s.

There might be some game music around on watnet's ftp, but I think Ron might've removed it...

Sorry about that website. I didn't know it had gone bad like that.

I found a plugin that is good for this. It will turn most things that winamp can play into a more normal format file, such as .wav. Supposedly, it only works on winamp2 or 5 though... But if you're using either version, there's nothing to worry about.
    The plugin is here:
    http://home.hccnet.nl/th.v.d.gronde/dev/filewrite/
I can't remember exactly how to set it up, but there i a readme file for it. I know it involves having to go into the options on winamp and selecting this as the output plugin, but I can't remember exactly how to do that... I know it will work for converting PSF files to .wav, and will do it faster than playing them would be.

Yeah; once it's a WAV, you can just convert it to MP3 with Lame or whatever. I always played the SPC with a Winamp plugin, using playback option Filewriter, configured to output WAVs, then converted using CDEX or Right-Click MP3, but that's all personal preference. Filewriter comes with Winamp, so you can find it under Preferences somewhere; lemme know if you want to use this method and need a hand.
    I may be lazy, but I can...zzzZZZzzzZZZzzzZZZ...

ummm well that medthod is okay, any medthod is okay with me as long as I can convert the files to MP3 and/or wav files. (wav files are smaller? so maybe want those more so, as when you do burn a audio CD most of today's burners 'converts' MP3's to wav (has to with 'plder CD players) so wav is good, MP3 is also, just gotta and shall take what I can get really.

As far as needing a hand...err yep I sure do really, I been to the pages and such, and err well, I am still lost----really lost abit. As I am pretty 'not used to' non-MP3/Wav files... I mean basic thing I know of saving any type of file differnetly s the simple 'windows save way' that file, then 'save as' at the top of the window in windows, but for sure that does not work this way.... now if I could just learn err what to do and all that good stuff.

I think I can see (and then explain properly) how to use the plugins on monday, as I should have access to a computer then. It's too bad I can't do it sooner...

ummm...winamp already COMES with a diskwriter and an mp3writer plugin (diskwriter writes wavs). I'm assuming amy is playin psfs, so all you have to do is set the output plugin to the diskwriter, or the mp3 out plugin (sometimes it's not available WITH winamp, but can be easily downloaded) and play your music, at which point it will write it to a file. i've been turning psfs into mp3s for a while now, with that method. works for other wave based files winamp can play too, like nsf, spc, and modules (not midi though, since that's...err...midi based). i'm pretty big on ripping music from games, psx or pc, so i'm the man to ask
    hehe.

    that is all!

OH!!! don't forget when you're done converting, to set the output plugin back to waveOut, or directsound, or whatever one you normally use (usually it's waveOut).

i just read what amy said about wav versus mp3...wave files are HUGE, amy

they are about 10 times bigger than an mp3, depending on the bitrate and such. a cd burning program decompresses mp3s into wavs, cuz that's all that audio cd players know how to read. don't try to store your music collection in wav format, or you'll run out of space 10x faster
