    Default X - Band Revival

I've been following this thread: http://board.acmlm.org/thread.php?id=14914&page=0

Well, X-band was a modem you could use for snes and genesis to play games online with eachother. It had a decent amount of popularity and was one of the first device to bring consoles online. Anyhow these guys have been tearing apart the X-band and I think they even got it's source code from it's creators. They are talking about bringing it back online via kilierra (servers to play other emulated systems online).

I don't know. This kinda excites me. Right now you can find X-bands on ebay for pretty cheap now cause right now they are useless. The service u had to buy with x-band shut down years ago. But I think it would be pretty awesome to try that out, I imagine should they get it working they would probably bring even more games online than what was supported at that time.

It sounds like the guys doing this know what they are doing, hell, they even found unused minigames in the system.

Yeah, it's kinda touching actually. Gamers helping out gamers.

I am not sure, but I think that they may be trying to make the x-band compatible with computer users in kialerra also. Which would be perfect, cause I imagine the owners of x-band is not so great now. But they would still be able to find many more users that way.

Yeah, that is pretty awesome...I heard a rumor (before seeing the prototype that dispelled the rumor) that Nintendo was going to release a system backward compatible with all of its games...that would've been awesome...

The system won't be backwards compatible in the sense you can put cartridges in it. But they plan to have a service to let you download old nintendo games from previous system. I think it's pretty exciting to think of playing some Mario Kart 64 and other things on the new system.

I wonder how much they're going to charge for that service. Nintendo has been really upset about emulation in the past, and as such I could see them doing something slightly unpleasant with that feature.

A device that could use all previous cartriges would be bad ass...

I'm impressed somebody's decided to hack that thing. Never saw one myself, but I had heard of it quite a lot.
