Default What do I need for Artemis?

All I have is a old fat PS2, a few memory cards with uLaunchElf, a codebreaker, and a AR Max. I'm dumb beyond that. I will be visiting gamestop next week. I would like to know what I would need to pick up to make Artemis work.

I don't know what the core launcher is, ps2cc, or anything. I'm dumb when it comes to any of this.

What is all of the stuff I would need to buy, and other than Artemis itself, what is everything else that would need to go on my memory card?

You need to install FMCB to have an easy way to boot homebrew.
No more Core Launcher updated, you should now use Artemis: http://bitbucket.org/misfire/artemis/

You also nee to buy a network adapter for your fat PS2 + a crossover ethernet cable.

I don't know what a crossover ethernet cable is, but would I just ask for one in a store and actually get one without confusing an employee because it would sound like too much of a vague request?

There aren't different brands of network adaptors for PS2 I hope. I know my luck with choosing things, I choose the brand that has the worst functionality that probably won't work.

A crossover ethernet cable is simply crossed (sorry I'm french), if you look at the 2 ends the little wires inside are inverted, it's meant for bilateral communication.

There are 2 network adaptors, one supports HDD, the other not (It's wrote on it). I suggest that you find the HDD one which will allow you to play HDloader, that one:

To complicate things, you could also use two Cat5 cables and a switch.

I now have a crossover ethernet cable, free mc boot, artemis 0.3, ps2cc, a friend's slim PS2, and access to a windows vista laptop. I don't know how to make artemis work.

In uLaunchElf from free mc boot, something in it says the ip is 168.192.0.80. I tried the crossover cable both directions twice. Ps2cc's option has the ip set to 168.192.0.80 too, and I pressed set. I did that after artemis was on and the game "Genji" was paused. I used reconnect with ps2cc, and I kept getting the "connecting to ps2 server" thing. I couldn't search ever, it always said it wasn't connected.

What am I missing, or what am I doing wrong? Any precise steps I could follow that anybody has?

Is there an obvious way to know if it is connected and working?

You need to set the same IP that's on artemis.conf in PS2CC.
    Older versions use 192.168.0.80,
Artemis 0.3 uses 192.168.0.10 by default.

You said your using a crossover cable did you also set the laptops lan ip to the same subnet as the address in artemis.conf for the ps2? If you have not yet done so you will need to change the laptop from automaticly asigned ip to a static one on the same subnet... eg try setting it to 192.168.0.2 with a netmask of 255.255.255.0 sorry I don't use vista so I can't tell you how to chaneg it...

I don't know if this will work for everybody, but it somehow does for me in win7. In artemis.conf I have the PS2's IP set to 192.168.0.80, the mask to 255.255.0.0, and the gateway set to 192.168.1.64 (which is the IP of my computer). This is with everything going through a router on a different subnet than the PS2.

A thing to try if PS2CC isn't cooperating is deleting ps2cc.cfg.

There is one problem with Artemis 0.3 I've noticed. It very much does not want to be run off USB mass. No matter where artemis.conf and cheats.txt are it can't quite seem to find them. My solution ended up being to copy the three files onto a memory card.

I'm running mine from USB mass, and it seems to work just fine...
