Games that could have been

Curious if anyone has played any games that seemed to be near the edge of greatness but don't quite make it.

For example I was playing Earnest Eveans for Sega Genesis. It uses some smooth scrolling graphics. They seem to be vectored like Galamoth on Castlevania SOTN. But unfortuately it falls short. I think it's due to the games sluggish controls. Not to mention the goofiness of seeing the main hero walk and do whatever he does. I guess the company that made it had great plans for the franchise cause they went thru the trouble of making a sega cd version out of it and included a El Veinto crossover. If they had either put it in development a little longer and fine tuned it it could of been one of the Genesis finest games.

I'm always thinking that about some game or another, yet for some reason I can't think of even one example now...

Every game I mentally check is either definitely good or definitely shit...I wish they would have done better work with Seiken Densetsu 3 and Legend of Mana...bleh, I got nothing.
