    Default How to translate "shift jis"

    I believe this text is shift jis. It is from the game Lucky luke western fever PAL (i got it off of the disc). I need to translate it. Or if someone can translate.

    Notepad?

    I copied the stuff in your first post into notepad and saved as a regular ASCII file.

    Then I opened the notepad file in a hex editor and added "0xFEFF" to the front of the file.

    This converts the file to a Unicode .txt, which will cause the next opening of the file to treat the hex as Unicode. Unicode has J support. Voila tu es, victoly.

    To quote myself, "That's a hack".

    If I may ask, though, how do you plan on translating that?

    figured I would just cut and paste into a translator (some will take japanese charecters). If you would like to see what it came from here it is from the game lucky luke western fever (PAL). There is a folder called level0. In that is a text document level0. The game is unplayable past a certain point because you can't get past the mexican (and the key is missing in all copies made from the disc). When I put the game in cd drive and found this file everything looked o.k. untill you scroll down to the part about the mexican.

    Heh, I got bored and decided to write a program the makes a file containing all the Unicode characters.

    I've attached the output file.

    What I just did with the above program is what I was trying to do when I originally opened a .txt file in a hex editor and compared the difference between a Unicode file and a plain ASCII file, which I discovered was the 0xFEFF header (actually 0xFFFE, but the whole file is in little endian).
