Default For those inquiring about the MIPS r3000...

...to include VisitntX, I've added a reference to the Library: the IDT MIPS Guide.

    http://gshi.org/faqs/IDT_MIPS_Guide.pdf

For those not appraised, the r3000 is the PSX (original Playstation, as well as the PSOne) CPU. It's also the IOP (Input-Output Processor) for the PS2, and, effectively, the CPU for PSX games played on a PS2 (hence, cheap backward compatibility, without a generally wasted extra processor).

The IDT MIPS Guide covers families r3000-r5000, to include not only the r3000, but the r5900L, the Emotion Engine (CPU for the PS2). May you find it, in the very least, educational

Let me know if you have any questions, or require further reference.

Oh, something VisitntX amazingly located, is the MIPS IV instruction manual, which covers R3000 or so:

I've been meaning to add this to the Library, but couldn't come up with a decent description. It may be somewhat redundant now, but it could still be useful.

    Nice; I'll check it out.

    Thanks, VisitntX

Actually, MIPS IV is the ISA level for RC32000 series, as well as R5000 series. R3000 utilizes MIPS I.

Thus, the FAQ VisitntX provided would be useful as a PS2 reference, but not as a PSX one, as much of it would not apply, and the reader would have no way of knowing which parts did or didn't.

A reference of most existing MIPS processors, and the ISA to which they belong, is detailed in the IDT MIPS Guide

Yeah, i had some free time so i took a look to it and it seems that only covers the MIPS IV. But now we have both manuals.
    Thanks a lot LB.

Anyone actually gotten Branch...Likely instructions to work on PSX? I don't think I ever have. I dunno if it's r3000 or just PCSX, but it pisses me off since I used them on N64 all the time.

Accurate documentation of R3000 is hard to find, it would seem. One thing I'm reading says there's no COP1 (which fits with PCSX's debugger display), while another says it uses R3051 for the FP calculations.
