For those not appraised, the r3000 is the PSX (original Playstation, as well as the PSOne) CPU. It's also the IOP (Input-Output Processor) for the PS2, and, effectively, the CPU for PSX games played on a PS2 (hence, cheap backward compatibility, without a generally wasted extra processor).
The IDT MIPS Guide covers families r3000-r5000, to include not only the r3000, but the r5900L, the Emotion Engine (CPU for the PS2). May you find it, in the very least, educational
