Default Chrono Trigger Code Ideas and wishes

Okay this is new, well, I found abit of 'new' info on the topic so am going to post that all here. (Not to be a butt, just saw it over at GSC andthought that I remembered once I and others were wishing for such code for the PSX version of CT. These codes are in GameGenie format, but I would expect yes, that GG can be converted over to GS and work right? Also, this hacker did not have all his wishes done, as I also wished, thus why he asked for help just with the SNES versions, anywya I shall post all and you shall see, and I hope all is well and maybe soemthing good for the PSX version may come out of his work on the SNES version.

I tried hacking this code, but apparently it's beyond my skill and/or patience.
And that code is: allow each characters tech list to be modified. Meaning, you could set one of Crono's (or any characters) techs to Dark Bomb or Flare, for example.
He first says that, which is yes something I always wanted for this game and wonder if it is possible to replace Magus's Lightning2 with Luminaire and such other things.... am still and shall hold hope being GSPro is the most powerful hacking device ever. Otherwsie he goes on.

If I had to guess, I'd say that there is an index pointer for each tech, and somewhere there is stored a list (8 for each character) of lookup indices. I looked at the ROM, and it seems that most things in the game are arranged that way. For instance, all tech names are in a continuous block, another block contains all tech descriptions, etc.

That would mean that each character just has a bunch of constant indices, that don't change. This makes it impossible to find what I want with a difference search, and "equal to" searches only narrow it down to about 9000 or so.

What might work is to find known values in the ROM, then trace back up the pointer trail.

Hopefully someone can find a better way to do this.

EDIT: I found the following codes today. Don't bother putting them on the site, but they might be useful to someone else if they are bored one day and decide to try hacking the code I mentioned above.

    For Crono:

    Always do tech:
    7E93F4XX
This code only seems to work for techs that the character can already do. It works so that no matter what tech you select, you always do the one in the code.

    Change tech animation:
    7EAE93XX
This code lets you see the character perform any tech in the game. Unfortunately, the effect of the tech is the same as the one you selected. For example, you could change the animation to "Triple Kick", but if you select "Slash" as the tech to do in battle, the damage dealt and enemies affected will be the same as Slash.

Here are the tech digits for the single techs (double and triple techs start at 0x39):

    01:Cyclone
    02:Slash
    03:Lightning
    04:Spin Cut
    05:Lightning 2
    06:Life
    07:Confuse
    08:Luminaire

    09:Aura
    0A:Provoke
    0B:Ice
    0C:Cure
    0D:Haste
    0E:Ice 2
    0F:Cure 2
    10:Life 2

    11:Flame Toss
    12:Hypno Wave
    13:Fire
    14:Napalm
    15:Protect
    16:Fire 2
    17:Mega Bomb
    18:Flare

    19:Rocket Punch
    1A:Cure Beam
    1B:Laser Spin
    1C:Robo Tackle
    1D:Heal Beam
    1E:Uzzi Punch
    1F:Area Bomb
    20:Shock

    21:Slurp
    22:Slurp Cut
    23:Water
    24:Heal
    25:Leap Slash
    26:Water 2
    27:Cure 2
    28:Frog Squash

    29:Kiss
    2A:Rollo Kick
    2B:Cat Attack
    2C:Rock Throw
    2D:Charm
    2E:Tail Spin
    2Fino Tail
    30:Triple Kick

    31:Lightning 2
    32:Fire 2
    33:Ice 2
    34ark Bomb
    35:Magic Wall
    36ark Mist
    37:Black Hole
    38ark Matter
THIS may be the keys really and open doors to allow those type of codes, as he has found alot even in the SNES version and welll again GSPro can do alot more then GG ever could, I thought, so wondering if possible now with this as a guild and help abit?

He also created other codes to max out weapons and armor, I'd wish these as well converted please, if someone would enjoy helping out with this maybe the ultimate CT hacks, please.... he goes one with his other findings.

Here are some codes for the things I did find.

The format for this code is different, but it seemed to be the best way to do it.
The code allows you to set the strength and special attributes for any weapon (I'll have defensive items tomorrow, too tired to type them up now).

    Weapon strength:
    CC0XXXZZ
Where XXX is a weapon digit in the table below, and ZZ is the strength (from 00-FF).
The XXX from this code is used as a base for the other codes. Just add the amount shown to get the correct value.

Weapon has 70% critical hit rate:
    CC0(XXX+2)46

    Change weapon attribute:
    CC0(XXX+3)YY
    CC0(XXX+4)01
Where YY is the attribute you want the weopon to have.

    Here are the digits needed:

    YY Attribute digits:
    02: Damage varies
0C: 1.5x hit on Mg enemies
0D: 2x hit on Mg enemies
16: Attach up when ally falls
    26: Random "stop"
    27: Random "slow"
    28: Random "stop" on machines
    29: Random "chaos"
    2E: Inflicts "chaos"
    2F: 4x damage at critical
    38: 9999 damage at critical

All of the weapon/armor changing codes can be converted to game genie format. I'll write a program that will handle conversion.

Okay he also said something about conversion, not sure that helps or hurts us seeking the PSX versions however, that maybe a GG thing as is well known GG does not read too deep into memory really, but GSPro sorta does with some code types.

Anyway I'd thought I post this and yes again bring this wish alive, if anyone would please to look into it. The wepon and amror ideas and codes are and would be nice, as is I would love to have an ultimate weapon of 9999 critical damage, and power of 255 normal, and be well any weapon you wish it to be, and armor as well, as is now, I have everyone 'in' a Prism Dress (yes even the guys) because it is the ultimate armor, but maybe with these ideas and what he found can make the armor, any of it all the better, with added bonuses.

I'd also wonder if they are ways to maybe 'edit' assesories so that any and all assessories 'powers' are gave as well?

Well Okay I do wonder and hope this shed light and maybe help with these code types I wish, please, the #1 'switch' and edit magic and techs, #2 weapons and armor attributes, and #4 the assesories also having the ultimate powers.

Again not stealing his mess, I just saw and thought as it is the same issue just different version fo the game, it may in fatc help here and bring that old CT dream back to life, I hope so anyway.

Those codes themselves aren't too much help for making psx versions, but the digits ought to be. Looks really interesting. I think the second codes just change what data is used for that weapon/armor, which should be possible on most squaresoft games... If I remember, CzarDragon hacked such codes for the equipment in FF7.

Heh, I never would have thought of trying these sort of hacks myself. I know of at least two games they should work on, maybe more. Of course, the two I know of includes this one.

Default Chrono Trigger Code Ideas and wishes

:P Well, not to push or take away your time, or in anyway be a bother, but if you wanna try, heck go man go. :P heh sorry my lame way of trying to sound cool there abit.

Sorta sad the codes themselfs do not help, was hopeing they would, you know, as is those codes I talked about is some major kick-ass codes wanted and wished for in CT games, It has to be if someone is so foward to finding the same exact codes for the SNES version of the game, a version of the game, myself I have yes but still go to the PSX version, more grapics, more codes and all that. But simply being that these codes are being so agrivated over, even on the SNES shows abit how much they mean, sorta, I think. :P

So any info this helps would be great as always, plus I am and have to be sorta ashamed of my own CT saves really....as is, I got all the weapons mixxed up, and everyone is in a green glowing Prism Dress (even the guys) so I do get alot of those odd looks from my friends that go like this abit.... (Like some people cannot take Crono being in a dress.... that green glow and those powers of defence says he has to for now anyway.) :P

But if there became ways and codes to 'edit' weapons and equipment, ofcorse they may not be 'savible' but still would be great needed and well liked codes. Like the Mop or such, to have the Mop as that guy said, with a 9999 criticle hit, and a 70% criticle hit rate and then normal power at 255, you'd not even need Techs nor magic...a simple Mop would be way more powerful then most of the triple techs even.

Which then makes me question if the weapons and items are possible, I wonder if the magic powers are as well, so a simple 'flame toss' causes 9999 also? Then that makes me also wonder if there is a way to get and keep it all in check, a way to get 'over' the 9999 hit points thing in damage and such. I mean I know there is some monsters and enemies have HP well over 9999 in the game, but the regestering is what it takes alot. (Such as the registering does in Chrono Cross alot) taking max damage and adding one to it makes it 9999 + 1 which ='s 10000 but in the game being 9999 is the highest number digit, you get a total damage of 1 hp. Rather strange but blahhh just the games reading and programming, which they were more the programming of the FFX titles so could breake the HP alimits and such but ehhh these are old but great games anyway. and I am rambling so I shall hsuh now. :P

Seems ZSNES doesn't support AR rom codes... If that is indeed what the ones starting with CC are. I had the idea to try and extract the default weapon/armor info from the snes version to see if it's somewhere in the psx one, but I can't even get to the address. Seems this might require a way of searching for only one byte, and having a lot of time to go looking through the results... Which I can't do yet... I'm going to see what I can do with the attribute digits...
