Default Converting Genesis PAR codes to work with all emulators and real hardware....

I thought it would be a good idea to create a minifaq of sorts to explain how you can make all genesis par codes work on all emulators.

I should say that many older emulators only allow for 16 bit (4 character values at end of code) and so entering 8 bit codes (2 character values at end of code) will result in either a nonworking code, or a code with glitchy effects. I think the actual PARs wont even let you enter any more codes unless you fully enter a 16 bit code. One thing to note is that 16 bit codes MUST end with an even number. Even numbers are : 0,2,4,6,8,A,C,E. The other thing to note is that the value must be 4 numbers long. You can see the difference in the example below.

    Example of bit codes :
    8-bit
    Infinite Blahness FF1449:A6
    16-bit
    Infinite Energy P1 FF1448:00A6

So here is an example of the actual conversion. This is for the game Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for sega genesis. You must first take the 8 bit code (Infinite Energy P1 FFF229:A6) And change the address to a even number. So you will need to scroll the number back by 1 (If it isn't already even). And so FFF229 would be come FFF228. Your code is now FFF228:A6. Next you must Make the value 4 characters long instead of 2. You can do this by simply adding 2 zeros. So A6 would become 00A6 if your original address was odd before being converted and it would be A600 if it was originally even. Your code is now FFF228:00A6 or FFF228:A600 and is ready to be used in any emulator.

Here are the rest of the UMK3 codes from the site converted.

Are the PAR codes writing 8 or 16 bits at a time, on the real device?

With the real genesis PAR you can only use 16 bit codes. I think thats why most early Genesis emulators only let you use 16 bit codes.
