  • GameHacking.org Weekly Hacking Target - 2014-11-01 - Syphon Filter 2 (PSX)

For an explanation of the Weekly Hacking Target, see the main thread: http://gamehacking.org/vb/threads/11...acking-Target!

This week's hacking target is Syphon Filter 2 for the PSX.

    Get hacking!
    I may be lazy, but I can...zzzZZZzzzZZZzzzZZZ...

    Disc 1: http://gamehacking.org/?game=89961
    Disc 2: http://gamehacking.org/?game=89962

Disc 2's page is empty, though disc 1 codes may work on disc 2. Even worse, disc 2 codes may be contained in disc 1's page. Since I've never played the game, I can't start sorting it out until I do. At least through all the hacking we can get them sorted out.

    Edit:

I decided since I don't want to screw with them to keep the codes on disc 1. Whether multiple disc codes need separate pages or not is a different discussion altogether. (ergo should be a separate thread if we are going to discuss it.)

To get the game to run in MESS- (might be an anti-piracy disable)

      Code:
      Assembly, for MESS
      800FC240 8F82

      RAM, for modded psx
      8011F400 0000
In order to get the backup to boot on my modded psx, I enabled the RAM code in GS, started the game, turned off the GS during boot, then flipped it back on after the screen went black.

            Code:
            Skip Movies
            3011EE9C 0000
Note: The 989 Studios clip will still play. I'll take care of it ASAP.

            Skip Movies (Levels)
            8002BB42 2400

            Skip Movies (The Emperium)
            8002C58E 2400

Music Speed Modifier (Default: 78) *a guide on how to make these ASAP*
            300FAEEC 00??
Note: This will only be set on bootup. Use a lower value for a faster rate; higher for a slower one.

I didn't search elsewhere to see if this was ever dealt with before, but from my looking, it looks like an SPU or FMV issue. 47 experienced a similar issue with the first game on the Wii port of PCSX. He got it to boot by disabling the movies. The PC PCSX stalls too, but I applied the following patch based on yours: 300FC23C 0000. It boots fine on Xebra, no$psx and ePSXe.
